Your User ID Is Changing!
NASA HQ Users Receiving a New AUID
August 8, 2008
You have been identified as a Headquarters employee who will receive a new Agency User ID (login name) during the Agency User ID (AUID) Renaming Project. This new User ID will become your computer login name and provide access to e-mail and other applications.
This is required to support the NASA Consolidated Active Directory (NCAD) project. NCAD is an Agency-wide project to consolidate individual Center directories into one Agency directory. The AUID is the first step toward a simplified sign-on environment and one milestone to Smart Card enablement.
For many employees, the new AUID is the same as their current HQ User ID. For those employees whose User ID (username) may be identical to others across the Agency, it is necessary to change the User ID to a unique ID.
To prepare for this migration, approximately 800 User ID’s will be renamed over the next 2 months to match the agency-assigned AUID. The HQ AUID project team will begin contacting users on Monday, August 11, to schedule appointments for changing User ID’s on computers and on the network simultaneously. Appointments will occur between August 13 and October 3, and will be scheduled according to computer location. You must be present during this appointment. Remote offsite users will be serviced on a case-by-case basis.
Your AUID renaming appointment will take less than 30 minutes per computer. During your appointment, you will receive a handout with additional information.
Until several other agency-wide projects are complete, it will be necessary for you to use your new AUID to access only certain systems. An AUID System Access list identifying when to use your new AUID will be made available to you during your 30 minute appointment. There will be no change to the login process you follow for other applications and services.
For more information on this Agency-wide initiative see the NASA IT Authentication and Authorization Infrastructure Web site.
