Deployment of Internet Explorer 7.0
All Windows XP Users (except FDCC pilot users)
July 10, 2008
The Office of Management and Budget (OMB) has mandated adoption of the Federal Desktop Core Configuration (FDCC) on all NASA HQ Windows XP computers. FDCC standardizes operating system and browser settings in order to improve security and requires the installation of Internet Explorer 7.0 (IE7).
FDCC must be implemented by July 31, 2008. In preparation for the deployment of FDCC, IE7 will be installed on your computer on or after Monday, July 14. IE7 adds features such as tabbed browsing and changes the appearance of some Web hyperlinks in e-mail messages, documents, and applications.
IE7 will be installed automatically in the background. You will be prompted to restart your computer after IE7 is installed. In the unlikely event you already have IE7, it will not be reinstalled.
For more information about FDCC, see the FDCC Frequently Asked Questions on the HQ FDCC Web page. For more information about IE7, see New Features of IE7.
Should you need assistance, call the Enterprise Service Desk (ESD) at 358-HELP (4357) or 1-866-4NASAHQ (462-7247), send an e-mail, or complete the online service request form.
