Early Adoption of Federal Desktop Core Configuration (FDCC) – Phase III

The Office of Management and Budget (OMB) has mandated adoption of the Federal Desktop Core Configuration (FDCC) on all NASA HQ Windows XP computers.  FDCC standardizes operating system and browser settings in order to improve security, and restricts the circumstances under which new software can be installed on your computer.
 
You have been selected to participate in Phase III of the FDCC implementation, which means you are part of a pilot group to receive FDCC settings early.  FDCC must be fully implemented at HQ by July 31, 2008, and your active participation as an early adopter is important to ensure the success of this effort. You are joining other early adopters from the Information Technology Communications Division (ITCD) and IT contractors, who have been testing FDCC since May 2008 with few problems.  
 
FDCC requires Internet Explorer 7.0 (IE7), which will be installed on your computer on or after Thursday, June 26.  A mandatory restart is required. A warning will appear on your screen 5 minutes before the restart begins.  FDCC settings will be silently applied on or after Monday, June 30, upon logging in to the HQ network.
 
FDCC requires passwords to be changed every 60 days.  If your HQ domain password is near expiration, you will be prompted to select a new password after installation of FDCC on your computer.  New passwords must be at least 12 characters in length.
 
Report all problems to the Enterprise Service Desk (ESD) promptly, identifying yourself as an FDCC early adopter.  ODIN personnel will quickly investigate and resolve any issues, or if necessary, temporarily reverse the FDCC settings. Your active participation in this effort is very important to help implement FDCC with minimal disruption.
