NOMAD Global Distribution List
A NOMAD Global Distribution List (DL) is a list of contacts which provides an easy way to send messages to a group of people. A message sent to a DL goes to all recipients listed in the DL. Distribution Lists can be used in messages, task requests, meeting requests, and other distribution lists.
An owner must be designated when a Global DL is created. A co-owner may also be designated. The owner and co-owner (if applicable) will have full control over the Global DL including the ability to edit the DL. Always use the Global Address Book (GAL) to add names to the DL. The GAL contains all user, group, and distribution list e-mail addresses within NASA.
You can send a message or meeting request to part of a DL by clicking the plus sign (+) next to the name of the DL to show the individuals on the list. Then delete the names that you do not want to receive the message.
One advantage of creating a Global DL is that anyone within the GAL has access to the DL unless it is restricted. You can view Global DL's already created by clicking on the To… box of any open e-mail message and searching within the Select Names window for DL's within the GAL. The NOMAD standard naming convention for a DL is HQ-DL-List Name.
There are two restrictions on Global Distribution Lists
- A Global DL can only contain NASA internal contacts. All recipients must be visible in the GAL.
- There is a limit of 100 recipients per list.
